Gianni Moramarco, born in Turin, is a multidisciplinary creative whose artistic career spans interior architecture, fashion design and the visual arts.
In recent years Moramarco has developed a strong exhibition presence, showing in numerous European galleries and high-profile art events. His works are held in public and private collections, and he took part in the 7th International Art Biennial of Ferrara in 2014.
His inspiration reveals a pop sensibility that remains far removed from dry conceptualism. At times surreal and at other times strikingly concrete, his paintings are populated by references to Turin and its symbolic places, which interact with flaming towers, softened but distorted figures and unexpected visual fragments.
Moramarco works through a pictorial mechanism based on irony, innocence and craftsmanship. He often breaks beyond the traditional limits of the frame, invading the boundaries of the painting as if driven by an irresistible need to escape reality and reinterpret it through his own visual language.
His works express an exuberant vision of the city, dismantling it into basic components before reconstructing it through unpredictable geometries. Colour both separates and unifies the fragments of this visual puzzle, giving new life to a fractured and uncertain reality.
More recently his subjects have shifted towards dreamlike and Kabbalistic themes, playing with numbers and the folds of his fragmented compositions. These works move further towards abstraction and symbolism, creating imaginary astral geographies that intersect with networks of cuts and folds.
