The story of Miljenko Bengez begins in Zagreb in 1954. After training with the artist Vilim Svečnjak and studying at the art academy in his home city, he began to devote himself to painting. Alongside his work as a painter, Miljenko studied art restoration, contributing to the conservation and reconstruction of important Italian works from the past.

His mature style reflects his scholarly nature while remaining direct, engaging and accessible. The work of his artistic maturity is highly personal, fresh and colourful in its immediacy, yet cultivated and informed in the way it draws on suggestions and references from art history.

Bengez lives and works in Zagreb. His works are held in numerous private collections across Europe, the United States and Japan.
