He attended the Art Institute in Pisa and graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in 1985. His early studies were rooted in the classics, before he discovered American art and underground culture. Bellandi subsequently established himself through a substantial programme of exhibitions in Europe and the United States, earning recognition from both audiences and critics within contemporary art.

Since 1994 he has been artistic director of the Visual Arts department at the cultural association Atelier delle Arti in Livorno, where he teaches painting and drawing. In 2007 he presented a solo exhibition at MUMI – Museo Michetti in Francavilla.
