Pellin pays tribute to Anna Magnani through an intense and deeply expressive portrait. The actress’s face dominates the composition, while her profound, melancholic gaze becomes the emotional centre of the work.
The predominantly monochrome painting is interrupted by carefully selected chromatic details: the red lips and reflections in the eyes emerge with particular force, heightening the expression of the face and recalling the artist’s distinctive visual language.
The work belongs to Pellin’s research into major female figures from cinema and the collective imagination. Anna Magnani, affectionately known as Nannarella, is portrayed not only as a screen icon but as an authentic, intense and vulnerable human presence.
The painting was acquired by Italian pastry chef Sal De Riso and is displayed at Sal De Riso Gourmet on the Amalfi Coast. It was also published in Aw ArtMag, directed by Lorella Pagnucco Salvemini.
